A PRAYER FOR CELEBRATION

This prayer asks God to awaken us to the ordinary gifts we often overlook and to teach us that rejoicing is not a denial of life’s sorrow. It is an expression of trust that sorrow never possesses the whole story.

Gracious God,

You are the giver of every good and perfect gift, yet I confess how easily I pass by your goodness without noticing it. My attention is often captured by what remains unfinished, what has disappointed me, or what I fear tomorrow may bring. Slow me down today. Open my eyes to the grace already present around me.

Teach me to recognize your generosity in ordinary things: in beauty that interrupts my hurry, kindness I did not expect, provision I might otherwise take for granted, laughter shared with someone I love, and quiet moments that remind me I am not alone. Keep me from treating these gifts as insignificant. Let each one become an invitation to gratitude and praise.

Give me permission to rejoice without guilt. Remind me that celebration does not deny sorrow, dismiss suffering, or pretend that all is well. It declares that sorrow does not possess the whole story. Even in difficult seasons, your goodness remains, your mercy is renewed, and your faithful presence endures.

Make joy a form of trust within me. Shape me into someone who notices grace, names it freely, and shares it generously. May my gratitude encourage those who have forgotten where to look for hope. May my delight bear witness to the God from whom every lasting joy comes.

Today, help me pause and name one specific evidence of your goodness. Let me receive it fully, celebrate it openly, and return it to you as praise.

In the name of Jesus, who came that our joy might be made full.
