Merciful God,

You already know the truth of my life. Nothing is hidden from you—not the actions others have seen, nor the motives I barely understand myself. Still, I avoid honesty. I soften what I have done, explain away what troubles my conscience, and hide behind regret that never quite becomes confession.

Bring me into your light.

Show me where I have sinned in thought, word, action, and neglect. Help me name what is mine without shifting blame or reaching too quickly for an excuse. Where I have wounded another person, let me acknowledge the harm. Where I have remained silent before injustice, disturb my comfort. Where fear, pride, resentment, or selfish desire has governed me, teach me to speak the truth plainly.

Search beneath the visible failure. Reveal the pattern.

What am I protecting? What am I trying to prove? What wound am I allowing to wound others? Show me the misplaced attachment beneath the repeated choice and the fear beneath the resistance. Give me courage to see myself clearly without either minimizing my sin or believing that it is the whole truth about me.

You meet confession with mercy—not because harm is unreal, but because grace makes return possible.

Keep me from confusing conviction with condemnation. Condemnation tells me to hide because I am beyond hope. Your Spirit calls me forward because transformation is still possible. Let sorrow become repentance: a changed mind, a turned heart, and a life moving in a different direction.

Where an apology is needed, make me humble enough to offer it without defending myself. Where restitution is possible, give me the resolve to make it. Where trust must be rebuilt slowly, teach me not to demand quick forgiveness from those I have hurt.

And when I have confessed, help me receive your mercy. I sometimes cling to shame because punishment feels easier than grace. Teach me that forgiveness is not permission to remain unchanged. It is freedom to begin again.

Today, I bring one honest thing into your light. No vague language. No managed appearance. Only the truth—and my trust that you will meet me there.

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a steadfast spirit within me, and lead me in the way of Christ.

In his name I pray.

Amen.
