Gracious God,

I move too quickly.

I hurry through tasks, conversations, meals, and even prayer. My attention is often fixed upon what comes next, leaving me only partly present to what is here now. In my haste, people become interruptions, ordinary beauty disappears, and the quiet movements of my own heart go unnoticed.

Slow me down, Lord.

Not so that I neglect what must be done, but so that I may do it with care. Teach me the difference between moving with purpose and living in a hurry. One is directed. The other is driven.

Show me what my busyness is trying to prove. I confess that I sometimes wear exhaustion as evidence of importance. I fear that slowing down will make me less useful, less productive, or less worthy. Remind me that my value is not measured by the speed at which I move or the number of demands I can carry.

When someone speaks, help me listen beyond the first few words. When I complete an ordinary task, keep me from rushing through it merely to reach another. When plans are delayed, loosen the impatience rising within me. Give me enough stillness to choose my response instead of surrendering to reaction.

Let slowing reveal what hurry has concealed: the weariness in another person’s face, the tension within my own body, the grace contained in a simple meal, the question beneath my anxiety. Make me attentive to the small openings through which love may be offered.

I know that a slower pace will not remove every obligation. Some days will remain crowded. Some needs will be urgent. In those moments, create within me an unhurried spirit—a heart grounded enough to act without becoming scattered.
