Holy Saturday

A quiet tomb entrance in dim light, symbolizing stillness and waiting before resurrection.
This image represents the stillness of Holy Saturday—the space between loss and resurrection. It reflects the quiet tension of waiting, where nothing appears to happen, yet everything is unfolding.

The Day Nothing Happens

Waiting When Hope Is Quiet

Holy Saturday — Discipleship in the Silence

Today, there is no movement.

No crowd.

No teaching.

No miracles.

No visible work.

Just silence.

Jesus has been buried.

The cross has done its work.

The disciples have scattered.

And for those who loved Him, this is the hardest part:

The day after loss.

The day before hope.

1. This Is the Day We Avoid

We are comfortable with:

  • the action of Good Friday
  • the celebration of Easter

But not this.

The space in between.

The day where:

  • nothing is resolved
  • nothing is explained
  • nothing feels hopeful

We tend to rush past this day.

But Scripture does not.

2. The Silence Is Real

There is no recorded miracle today.

No visible sign that something is happening.

Only grief.

Confusion.

Stillness.

For those who followed Jesus, this day felt like the end.

Not a transition.

An ending.

3. We Know This Day

We recognize this space.

Moments when:

  • prayers feel unanswered
  • clarity doesn’t come
  • loss feels final
  • hope feels distant

We live more of our lives in this space than we admit.

Between what has happened

and what we hope will come.

4. God Is Still at Work — Even Here

Nothing appears to be happening.

But everything is moving beneath the surface.

The story is not over.

Even when it feels like it is.

Holy Saturday reminds us:

God’s work is not always visible.

And His silence is not absence.

5. The Discipline of Waiting

This day teaches something few of us want to learn:

To wait without resolution.

To remain without answers.

To stay present when nothing feels certain.

This is not passive.

It is one of the deepest forms of trust.

6. A Practice for Today

Do not rush this day.

Do not fill it with noise.

Choose one quiet moment.

And simply sit.

No agenda.

No explanation.

No movement forward.

And pray:

“God, I trust You even here.”

The Invitation

Holy Saturday does not ask you to understand.

It asks you to remain.

To sit in the space where:

  • loss is real
  • silence is heavy
  • and hope has not yet arrived

Because this space is part of the story.

And if you learn to remain here…

You will recognize resurrection when it comes.

Stay.
