Many of us have spent years reading the Bible.

**Don’t just read Scripture. Let Scripture read you.**

Some passages have become so familiar that we can almost finish them from memory.

And familiarity is a gift.

But it can also become a quiet obstacle.

Because it is possible to know the words…

…and stop listening to them.

**Bible study is not simply about reading Scripture. It is about allowing Scripture to read us.**

**1\. Familiarity Can Quiet Wonder**

There is a subtle temptation in long-term discipleship.

To assume we already know what a passage says.

We recognize the story.

We remember the lesson.

And before the Spirit has an opportunity to speak, we have already moved on.

Bible study gently invites us to return with fresh eyes.

Not asking:

*“What do I already know?”*

But:

**“What is God revealing today?”**

**2\. Scripture Is More Than Information**

The Bible certainly teaches.

It informs.

It instructs.

It reveals.

But God’s Word was never given merely to increase our knowledge.

It was given to shape our lives.

As we study Scripture, we begin seeing:

- God’s character
- God’s heart
- God’s faithfulness
- God’s purposes

And in seeing Him more clearly, we begin seeing ourselves more honestly.

**3\. Humility Opens the Door**

Bible study requires a posture many of us find difficult.

Humility.

Not approaching Scripture looking for confirmation of our own assumptions.

But allowing Scripture to challenge them.

Sometimes God’s Word comforts us.

Sometimes it convicts us.

Sometimes it gently reveals places where our lives have drifted from His heart.

All of this is grace.

**4\. God’s Word Steadies Us**

We live surrounded by competing voices.

Opinions.

Algorithms.

Cultural pressure.

Constant commentary.

Scripture becomes an anchor.

Not because it answers every question immediately.

But because it continually reorients us toward what is enduringly true.

**5\. Study Leads to Transformation**

The purpose of Bible study is not simply to finish another chapter.

It is to become more like Christ.

Over time, Scripture begins shaping:

- how we think
- how we respond
- how we forgive
- how we pray
- how we love

Not through one dramatic reading.

But through faithful return.

Again.

And again.

**6\. Reading Becomes Conversation**

The most fruitful Bible study is never one-sided.

We read.

We reflect.

We pray.

We listen.

Sometimes one verse lingers longer than an entire chapter.

Sometimes a familiar passage suddenly feels new.

Not because the text changed.

Because we have.

**7\. A Practice for July 3**

Today, choose one passage of Scripture.

Read it slowly.

Read it twice.

Perhaps even three times.

Instead of asking:

**“What does this passage mean?”**

Also ask:

**“How is this passage inviting me to live differently today?”**

Then remain with whatever draws your attention.

**The Invitation**

July 3 reminds us that Bible study is more than learning about God.

It is learning to walk with Him.

Scripture is not merely a book to master.

It is God’s living Word, continually inviting us into deeper trust, greater wisdom, and more faithful love.

Read carefully.

Listen prayerfully.

And allow God’s Word not only to inform your mind…

…but to reshape your heart.

Monday through Saturday.

One passage at a time.
