*(The Spiritual Discipline of Simplicity)*
*May 27 — Spiritual Disciplines | Discipleship in Real Life*

Not all clutter is physical.

Some of it lives:

- in schedules
- in commitments
- in notifications
- in unfinished thoughts
- in the constant pressure to keep adding more

And over time, the soul becomes crowded.

Not necessarily because life is bad.

Because it is full.

Too full.

**Simplicity is the discipline of making room for what matters most.**

**1\. More Does Not Always Lead to Fuller Life**

Modern life quietly teaches us:

- more options
- more possessions
- more commitments
- more productivity

will create fulfillment.

But often, the opposite happens.

Attention fragments.
Peace thins.
Presence disappears beneath constant accumulation.

Not because everything we carry is wrong.

Because too much of it competes for the same inner space.

**2\. Clutter Consumes Attention**

Every possession,
every commitment,
every distraction
asks something from you.

Attention.
Maintenance.
Mental space.
Emotional energy.

And eventually, excess begins shaping the inner life:

- hurry increases
- attentiveness weakens
- stillness becomes difficult

Simplicity asks:
“What is actually necessary here?”

**3\. Simplicity Is Not Deprivation**

This discipline is not about rejecting beauty or joy.

It is about releasing what keeps your heart overcrowded.

Simplicity teaches discernment:

- what is essential
- what is distraction
- what creates life
- what quietly drains it

The goal is not emptiness.

It is freedom.

**4\. Letting Go Creates Clarity**

When unnecessary things are released,
something surprising happens.

Space appears.

Not just physically.

Internally.

You begin to notice:

- more peace
- more attentiveness
- more gratitude
- more capacity for presence

Because the soul finally has room to breathe again.

**5\. Simplicity Deepens Contentment**

Much of modern life feeds restlessness.

There is always:

- something else to buy
- another thing to add
- another demand competing for attention

Simplicity gently interrupts that cycle.

It teaches:
enough can actually be enough.

And contentment quietly grows where accumulation loosens its grip.

**6\. Simplicity Makes Presence Possible**

A crowded life struggles to remain attentive.

Simplicity creates room:

- for prayer
- for stillness
- for relationships
- for noticing God again

Not because simplicity saves you.

Because it removes what keeps pulling your attention elsewhere.

**7\. A Practice for May 27**

Today, intentionally let go of one unnecessary thing.

It may be:

- a distraction
- a commitment
- an object
- an obligation
- unnecessary noise

Then pause and notice:

**“What becomes lighter when this is released?”**

Let simplicity create room.

**The Invitation**

May 27 reminds us that discipleship is not about adding endlessly.

Sometimes growth happens through release.

You do not need to carry everything.

You do not need to fill every space.

You are invited to live:

- more lightly
- more attentively
- more freely

Because simplicity creates room for what matters most.

Monday through Saturday.

One less distraction at a time.
