# Redefining Discipleship: Why This Matters for the Everyday Christian

Most people sitting in church on a Sunday morning don’t think of themselves as disciples.  
  
They think:  
“I’m just a normal Christian.”  
“I’m not a pastor.”  
“I don’t know enough.”  
“I’m not holy enough.”  
“I barely have time to pray, let alone ‘be a disciple.’”  
  
Some even carry quiet guilt:  
“Whatever discipleship means… I’m probably not doing it.”  
  
If that’s you—or if you love someone who feels that way—this module is your doorway into a much simpler, more joyful, and more accessible understanding of what it means to follow Jesus.  
  
**Discipleship Is Not for the Elite**  
  
The church has accidentally created two categories of Christians:  
• “Regular Christians”  
• “Serious Christians” (the ones who lead, study, pray and seem to glow in the dark)   
  
  
But this divide never existed in the early church.  
There were no spectators—only followers.  
  
A disciple was simply a person who learned from Jesus how to live like Jesus.  
Not perfectly.  
Not instantly.  
Not impressively.  
  
But faithfully.  
  
**A Disciple Is an Apprentice**  
  
Jesus didn’t go looking for scholars or spiritual superstars.  
He called fishermen, tax collectors, political radicals, and ordinary people with ordinary jobs.  
  
In other words:  
people like the ones who sit in the pew every week.  
People like you.  
  
When Jesus says, “Follow Me,” He is inviting you to:  
• learn from Him  
• walk with Him  
• let Him shape the way you think, work, rest, love, and live  
  
Apprenticeship—not achievement—is the model.  
  
**Discipleship Happens in Real Life**  
  
This module exists because far too many discipleship resources are written for pastors, seminary students, or church strategists.  
  
But what about:  
• the single mom trying to make ends meet?  
• the retiree who wants to deepen their faith?  
• the young adult juggling school, work, and doubts?  
• the busy family rushing from one commitment to another?  
• the “Chreaster” who shows up at Christmas and Easter wondering if God has room for them?  
  
They need tools too.  
They need clarity.  
They need encouragement.  
They need a starting point.  
  
**This series gives them exactly that.**  
  
Three Big Shifts We Make in the series  
**1.** From believer → apprentice  
We redefine what a disciple is, and what it isn’t.  
This removes shame and opens the door.  
  
**2.** From knowing → becoming  
We explore why discipleship is about transformation, not more theological information.  
  
**3.**From scattered habits → intentional rhythms  
We introduce the idea of a Rule of Life—a personalized, sustainable framework for arranging your days around God.  
  
**This Is For the Person in the Pew**  
  
If you’ve ever thought:  
• “I want to grow, but I don’t know where to start.”  
• “I want my faith to matter outside of Sunday mornings.”  
• “I want to follow Jesus, but life is messy.”  
  
Then this is for you.  
  
And the good news is this:  
You don’t need to be extraordinary.  
  
Just willing.  
  
Jesus never said,  
  
“Impress Me.”  
He said,  
**"FOLLOW ME!"**
