*(The Spiritual Discipline of Worship)*
*May 14 — Spiritual Disciplines | Discipleship in Real Life*

Faith can quietly become private.

Not intentionally.

But gradually.

We:

- pray alone
- think alone
- struggle alone
- carry questions internally

And over time, it becomes easy to imagine discipleship as something lived mostly within ourselves.

Then worship interrupts that illusion.

**Corporate worship reminds us that faith was never meant to be carried alone.**

**1\. Worship Reorients Attention**

Most of life pulls our attention inward.

Toward:

- responsibilities
- anxieties
- personal concerns
- unfinished tasks

Worship lifts our attention outward and upward.

Not by denying our burdens.

But by placing them within a larger reality:

- God’s presence
- God’s faithfulness
- God’s people gathered together

**2\. Worship Is More Than Preference**

It’s easy to approach worship through the lens of:

- preference
- comfort
- style
- personal experience

But worship is not primarily about consuming something.

It is about offering attention together.

Prayer together.
Confession together.
Praise together.
Silence together.

Corporate worship gently loosens the idea that faith revolves around individual preference.

**3\. Shared Worship Shapes Us Differently**

There are things we encounter in communal worship that cannot be fully experienced alone.

Hearing others sing when your own faith feels weak.
Receiving Scripture alongside people carrying different burdens.
Standing together in confession and hope.

Worship reminds us:

- we belong to God
- and we belong to one another

That belonging matters deeply.

**4\. Worship Renews the Heart**

When you gather with others in worship, something shifts.

Your attention slows.
Your perspective widens.
Your burdens become less isolating.

Not because every problem disappears.

But because you remember:
you are not carrying life by yourself.

**5\. Worship Requires Presence**

It is possible to attend worship without truly being present.

To:

- rush through it
- evaluate it
- remain distracted within it

The discipline is not merely attendance.

It is attentiveness.

To:

- God’s presence
- the gathered body
- the movement of your own heart

**6\. A Practice for May 14**

Today, approach worship intentionally.

Before it begins, pause and pray:

**“God, help me be fully present here.”**

Then notice:

- the voices around you
- the shared prayers
- the moments that move your attention toward God

Receive worship not as performance.

But as participation.

**The Invitation**

May 14 reminds us that worship is not just an individual act.

It is a shared return.

A return:

- to God
- to truth
- to community
- to remembrance

You do not worship alone.

You never were meant to.

Monday through Saturday.

Together before God.
