# The King Who Rode Without Wealth

*What Kind of Kingdom Are You Living For?*

*March 28 — Lent | The Discipleship of Your Dollar*

Tomorrow, the Church remembers a King.

Not one who arrived with wealth.

Not one who displayed power.

Not one who secured influence.

A King who rode into the city on a borrowed donkey.

No entourage.

No spectacle of riches.

No visible sign of economic strength.

And yet, the crowd still shouted:

*“Hosanna.”*

**The kingdom of God does not run on accumulation. It runs on surrender.**

And that reality reframes everything we’ve been exploring this month.

**1\. Palm Sunday Exposes Our Expectations**

The crowd expected a different kind of king.

One who would:

- take control
- establish dominance
- restore power
- secure prosperity

But Jesus arrived differently.

Not to accumulate.

To give.

Not to secure His position.

To surrender it.

Not to build wealth.

To pour Himself out.

**2\. We Still Look for a Different Kind of Kingdom**

Even now, we quietly expect life to work the same way:

More security = more peace

More money = more freedom

More control = more stability

But March has been gently undoing that equation.

We’ve seen:

- enough matters more than more
- generosity reshapes the heart
- simplicity restores clarity
- trust outlasts control
- money loses its voice

Palm Sunday confirms it:

The kingdom does not operate the way we expect.

**3\. Money Reveals Which Kingdom We Trust**

All month we’ve been asking:

What is your money doing to you?

Now we ask:

**What kingdom is it pointing you toward?**

Toward:

- accumulation
- comparison
- security through control

Or toward:

- generosity
- trust
- surrender

Your financial life is not separate from your spiritual life.

It is one of its clearest expressions.

**4\. Surrender Looks Like Loss Before It Looks Like Life**

The crowd celebrated on Sunday.

But the week that followed looked very different.

Palm branches gave way to sacrifice.

Expectation gave way to surrender.

This is the tension of discipleship.

Letting go rarely feels powerful at first.

It feels like:

- loss
- vulnerability
- uncertainty

But in the kingdom of God, surrender is not the end.

It is the beginning of life.

**5\. A Practice for March 28**

Today, ask yourself:

**“Where am I still trying to build security instead of trust?”**

Then hold that area honestly before God.

Not with pressure.

With openness.

And pray:

**“God, align my life with Your kingdom, not my accumulation.”**

**The Invitation**

March has been a quiet journey.

From:

- comparison
- to contentment
- to generosity
- to simplicity
- to trust

And now, to surrender.

Palm Sunday reminds us that the way of Jesus is not upward through accumulation.

It is forward through surrender.

You do not need to have more to follow Him.

You need to trust more.

Monday through Saturday.

Even in your money.
