*(The Spiritual Discipline of a Rule for Life)*
*May 11 — Spiritual Disciplines | Discipleship in Real Life*

Every day is shaping you.

Not dramatically.
Not all at once.

But steadily.

The rhythms of your life:

- your pace
- your attention
- your habits
- your routines
- your distractions

are quietly forming the kind of person you are becoming.

**A Rule for Life is not about controlling your life. It is about becoming intentional about what is already shaping it.**

**1\. You Already Have a Rule**

Most people hear “Rule for Life” and imagine something formal or monastic.

But the truth is:

You already live by a rule.

The question is whether it is intentional.

Your current rhythms already shape:

- what you prioritize
- what gets your attention
- how you respond to stress
- whether you rest
- whether you remain attentive to God

No life is unstructured.

Some structures are simply unexamined.

**2\. Without Intention, Drift Takes Over**

Life naturally pulls toward:

- hurry
- distraction
- exhaustion
- fragmentation

Not because you chose those things consciously.

Because they accumulate quietly.

Without intentional rhythms, the inner life slowly becomes reactive instead of grounded.

A Rule for Life interrupts that drift.

**3\. A Rule Is Meant to Create Space**

This discipline is often misunderstood.

A Rule for Life is not:

- rigid control
- spiritual perfection
- managing every moment

It is a framework that creates room for what matters most.

Prayer.
Scripture.
Rest.
Worship.
Stillness.
Attention.

Not forced.

Protected.

**4\. Rhythm Brings Stability**

When life feels complex or demanding, intentional rhythms become stabilizing.

Not because they remove difficulty.

Because they provide:

- clarity
- grounding
- consistency
- return points

A Rule for Life becomes less about achievement
and more about remembering what keeps you rooted.

**5\. Faithfulness Grows Through Repetition**

Most spiritual growth does not happen through dramatic moments.

It happens through repeated attention.

Returning:

- to prayer
- to stillness
- to Scripture
- to worship
- to rest

Again and again.

Over time, these rhythms become less like tasks
and more like pathways back to presence.

**6\. A Practice for May 11**

Today, reflect honestly on your current rhythms.

Ask:

**“What habits are shaping my life right now?”**

Not ideally.

Actually.

Then identify one small rhythm that helps you remain attentive to God.

Protect it.

Not rigidly.

Faithfully.

**The Invitation**

May 11 reminds us that discipleship is not built on occasional inspiration.

It is built through repeated rhythms.

A Rule for Life is not about becoming controlled.

It is about becoming rooted.

Because what you return to repeatedly
will shape who you become over time.

Monday through Saturday.

In the rhythms that quietly form your life.
