*Learning to Notice What Matters*

*March 31 — Holy Week | Discipleship in the Quiet Days*

By now, the city has settled.

The excitement of Palm Sunday has faded.

The noise has quieted.

The crowd has thinned.

And Jesus remains.

Moving through the city.

Teaching.

Observing.

Preparing.

But most people do not see it clearly.

They are:

- distracted
- occupied
- preoccupied with expectations
- still holding onto their version of how things should unfold

**Some of the most important moments of Holy Week happen quietly — and are easily missed.**

**1\. Not Everything Important Is Obvious**

We often assume that if something matters, it will be clear.

Visible.

Recognizable.

Undeniable.

But Holy Week tells a different story.

The most significant movement in history unfolds:

- without spectacle
- without clarity for the crowd
- without immediate understanding

The kingdom of God rarely announces itself in ways we expect.

**2\. Expectation Can Blind Us**

The people in Jerusalem were not unaware.

They were looking — but for something specific.

A political shift.

A visible victory.

A clear disruption of power.

Because their expectations were fixed, they missed what was actually happening.

Discipleship requires a different posture.

Not:

“Show me what I expect.”

But:

**“Help me see what is actually here.”**

**3\. We Do the Same Thing**

In our own lives, we often look for:

- dramatic change
- clear direction
- visible outcomes

And when those don’t appear, we assume nothing is happening.

But much of what God does is:

- slow
- quiet
- formative
- interior

Especially in seasons like Lent.

**4\. Attention Is the Work**

Holy Week invites us to become people who notice.

Not everything.

But what matters.

That means:

- slowing down enough to see
- resisting the urge to rush past
- paying attention to small shifts
- listening more than interpreting

Attention is not passive.

It is a discipline.

And it shapes what we are able to receive.

**5\. What You Notice Shapes You**

If you only notice:

- pressure
- deadlines
- comparison
- anxiety

those will shape your life.

If you begin to notice:

- grace
- quiet faithfulness
- moments of alignment
- small acts of love

those will shape you differently.

The difference is not circumstance.

It is attention.

**6\. A Practice for March 31**

Today, choose to notice one thing you would normally overlook.

A moment.

A conversation.

A pause.

A shift in your own response.

Then sit with it.

And pray:

**“God, help me see what I would normally miss.”**

**The Invitation**

March 31 reminds us that discipleship is not only about action.

It is about perception.

Holy Week is not loud.

It unfolds quietly, for those who are paying attention.

You don’t need to understand everything.

You need to notice what is in front of you.

Because what you see —

and what you miss —

will shape how you walk forward.

Monday through Saturday.

Even in the quiet.
