*(The Quiet Work Beneath the Surface)*
*May 6 — Discipleship in Real Life*

You slow down.

You become still.
You notice the restlessness.
You resist the urge to leave.

And then something begins to happen.

Not suddenly.
Not dramatically.

But gradually.

**When you stay long enough, what has been hidden begins to surface.**

**1\. The Surface Is Not the Whole Story**

At first, all you notice is movement.

Thoughts racing.
Distraction pulling.
Restlessness rising.

It can feel like nothing deeper is there.

But that’s just the surface.

When you remain, the surface begins to settle.

And what’s underneath becomes visible.

**2\. What You Carry Becomes Clear**

When you stay, you begin to notice:

- what you’ve been thinking about repeatedly
- what you’ve been avoiding
- what has been quietly shaping your responses
- what has been sitting just below your awareness

Not because it suddenly appeared.

Because you finally saw it.

**3\. Some of It Will Be Uncomfortable**

Not everything that surfaces will feel peaceful.

You may notice:

- tension
- fear
- unresolved thoughts
- emotions you’ve been pushing aside

This is where many people leave.

Not because they can’t stay still.

Because they don’t want to see what’s there.

**4\. But Some of It Will Be True**

Beneath the noise, something else is present.

Clarity.
Honesty.
Insight.
A quieter awareness.

Not forced.
Not manufactured.

Simply noticed.

This is the beginning of deeper understanding.

**5\. You Don’t Have to Fix What You See**

The temptation is to respond immediately.

To:

- analyze
- correct
- resolve

But the work is not to fix everything.

It’s to remain present with what is revealed.

To:

- acknowledge it
- hold it honestly
- allow it to be seen

This is where real change begins.

**6\. A Practice for May 6**

Today, take a moment to be still again.

Stay just a little longer than before.

And when something surfaces, ask:

**“Can I simply see this without reacting?”**

Let that be enough.

**The Invitation**

May 6 reminds us that stillness is not empty.

It is revealing.

You don’t discover something new.

You discover what has been there all along.

And when you are willing to stay,
to see,
and to remain,

your inner life begins to open in ways you cannot force.

Monday through Saturday.

Beneath the surface.
