# When It Feels Like Nothing Is Changing

Faithfulness Without Visible Results  

April 15 — Easter Week | Discipleship in Real Life

There comes a moment in discipleship that feels almost invisible.

You are:  
• showing up  
• paying attention  
• returning when you drift  
• trying to stay present

And yet…

Nothing seems different.

No breakthrough.  
No dramatic shift.  
No clear sense of progress.

And quietly, a question begins to form:

“Is any of this actually doing anything?”

1. We Expect Change to Be Obvious

We’ve been trained to measure progress visibly.

Results.  
Outcomes.  
Improvement we can point to.

So when change isn’t obvious, we assume it isn’t happening.

But discipleship rarely works that way.

The most important changes are often:  
• internal  
• gradual  
• difficult to measure  
• easy to overlook

1. Growth Often Happens Beneath the Surface

Think about what grows unseen.

Roots.  
Foundations.  
Strength.

Before anything becomes visible, something deeper is forming.

In your own life, that may look like:  
• reacting a little more slowly  
• noticing more than you used to  
• recovering from distraction more quickly  
• feeling tension where you once felt nothing

These are not dramatic.

But they are real.

1. The Kingdom Moves Quietly

Jesus described the kingdom as:  
• seed in soil  
• yeast in dough  
• growth that happens while no one is watching

That means something important:

You are not always aware of what is forming.

And awareness is not the measure of growth.

Faithfulness is.

1. We Are Quick to Evaluate Too Soon

One of our habits is to evaluate mid-process.

To ask:  
• Is this working?  
• Is this enough?  
• Should I be further along?

But formation doesn’t respond well to constant evaluation.

It requires:  
• time  
• repetition  
• patience  
• space

Discipleship is not a performance review.

It is a process.

1. Faithfulness Is the Measure

When results are unclear, the question changes.

Not:  
“Is this producing visible change?”

But:  
“Am I remaining faithful in what I’ve been given?”

Faithfulness is:  
• showing up  
• returning  
• staying  
• choosing alignment

Even when nothing feels different.

1. A Practice for April 15

Today, resist the urge to measure.

Instead, name one way you have remained faithful this week.

Not impressive.

Just real.

Then pause and acknowledge it.

Growth is often quieter than you expect.

The Invitation

April 15 reminds us that discipleship is not built on visible results.

It is built on steady faithfulness.

You may not see the change yet.

But that does not mean it is not happening.

Stay.

Return.

Remain.

Because what is being formed beneath the surface  
will eventually shape everything above it.

Monday through Saturday.

Even when nothing seems to be changing.
