# When It Meets Resistance

*Living Faithfully When It Pushes Back* 
*April 21 —Discipleship in Real Life*

It doesn’t take long.

You begin to live differently:

- more present
- more patient
- more attentive
- more generous

And then something happens.

Not always dramatic.

But noticeable.

**It doesn’t always go smoothly.**

There is friction.

**1\. Change Disrupts the Environment**

When you change, the environment around you doesn’t automatically adjust.

People are used to:

- your old responses
- your old pace
- your old patterns

So when something shifts, it can feel unfamiliar.

Sometimes even uncomfortable.

Not because you’re doing something wrong.

Because something is different.

**2\. Resistance Is Not Always External**

Sometimes the resistance comes from others.

But often, it comes from within.

Old instincts push back:

- impatience
- defensiveness
- the urge to revert
- the desire to be understood immediately

You feel the tension between:

- who you were
- and who you’re becoming

That tension is part of the process.

**3\. Not Everything Will Be Received Immediately**

Living differently does not guarantee immediate affirmation.

People may:

- misunderstand you
- question you
- overlook the change
- not respond the way you hoped

This is where discipleship deepens.

Because now the question is not:

“Is this working?”

But:

**“Is this faithful?”**

**4\. Jesus Was Not Always Understood**

As Jesus lived and spoke differently, people reacted.

Some were drawn in.

Others were confused.  
Resistant.  
Dismissive.

Faithfulness did not depend on reception.

It depended on alignment.

**5\. Resistance Clarifies Your Direction**

Friction reveals something important.

It shows you:

- what is still forming
- what still needs attention
- what you’re tempted to abandon

Without resistance, formation remains theoretical.

With it, it becomes real.

**6\. A Practice for April 21**

Today, notice one moment of resistance.

Not to avoid it.

To observe it.

Then ask:

**“What would it look like to remain aligned here?”**

Not perfect.

Just steady.

**The Invitation**

April 21 reminds us that outward living is not always smooth.

It is often met with resistance.

From others.  
From within.

But that resistance is not a signal to stop.

It is an invitation to stay.

To remain aligned.  
To continue gently.  
To hold your direction.

Because what is being formed in you  
is worth more than how easily it is received.

Monday through Saturday.

Even when it pushes back.
