*Returning Without Starting Over*

*April 14 — Easter Week | Discipleship in Real Life*

It doesn’t take long.

One day you feel present.

Attentive.

Connected.

And then…

You don’t.

Nothing dramatic happened.

No major decision.

No clear turning point.

Just a slow shift.

Distraction returns.

Attention drifts.

The sense of closeness fades.

And the question rises:

**“Did I lose it?”**

**1\. Distance Happens Quietly**

Most distance in discipleship doesn’t come from rejection.

It comes from drift.

You get busy.

You get tired.

You get pulled in different directions.

And without noticing, your attention moves elsewhere.

Not because you stopped believing.

Because you stopped returning.

**2\. We Mistake Distance for Failure**

When we feel distant, we often assume something is wrong.

That we’ve failed.

That we’ve undone progress.

That we need to start over.

But discipleship is not fragile like that.

Connection is not lost in a moment.

And it is not rebuilt from scratch every time.

**3\. Abiding Was Never Continuous**

The call to remain was never a call to perfection.

It was a call to return.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Even the disciples:

- misunderstood
- drifted
- lost focus

And yet, they kept coming back.

Abiding is not about staying perfectly connected.

It is about refusing to stay away.

**4\. The Return Is Always Simple**

We often make returning more complicated than it is.

We think we need:

- the right words
- the right mindset
- the right moment

But returning is simple.

Not easy.

But simple.

A pause.

A breath.

A turning of attention.

And a quiet acknowledgment:

“I’m back.”

**5\. Jesus Does Not Move Away**

One of the quiet truths of discipleship is this:

The distance you feel

is not created by Him.

You may drift.

But He does not.

So returning is not about finding your way back to a place that moved.

It’s about becoming aware again of the presence that never left.

**6\. A Practice for April 14**

When you notice distance today, don’t evaluate it.

Don’t analyze it.

Just return.

Pause.

And pray:

**“Jesus, here I am.”**

That’s enough.

**The Invitation**

April 14 reminds us that discipleship is not about maintaining perfect connection.

It is about practicing return.

You will drift.

You will lose focus.

You will feel distant again.

That is not the end of the story.

The story is in the return.

Monday through Saturday.

As many times as it takes.
