# When You Go Back to Work

**Following Jesus in Ordinary Life Again**

  
*April 9 — Easter Week | Discipleship in Real Life*

As Passover comes to a close, the story of deliverance gives way to something deeper—a new kind of freedom unfolding in the ordinary.

After everything…

They went back to work.

Not dramatically.  
Not ceremonially.

Just… back.

Back to the boats.  
Back to the nets.  
Back to what they knew.

Resurrection does not remove ordinary life.  
It meets you inside it.

**1\. The Return Feels Familiar**

There’s something deeply human about this moment.

After:

- powerful experiences
- meaningful moments
- spiritual clarity

we return to:

- routine
- responsibility
- the familiar rhythm of work

And sometimes it feels like a step backward.

Like:  
*Wasn’t something supposed to change?*

**2\. The Disciples Didn’t Abandon Their Calling**

They went back to fishing.

But they were not the same people.

The work looked identical.  
The meaning was not.

This is one of the quiet truths of Easter:

Your life may look the same.  
But it is not the same.

**3\. Jesus Meets Them There**

He doesn’t call them away from the water.

He meets them on the shore.

In the place they returned to.  
In the work they resumed.

And that matters.

Because it tells us:

You do not have to leave your life to follow Jesus.  
You follow Him within it.

**4\. Ordinary Work Becomes Sacred Again**

Fishing didn’t become less important.

It became reoriented.

The same is true for you.

Work becomes:

- a place of presence
- a place of attention
- a place of integrity
- a place of quiet faithfulness

Not because the work changed—  
but because you did.

**5\. Discipleship Is Lived in the Return**

The return to ordinary life is not a failure.

It is the proving ground.

Where:

- faith becomes practice
- belief becomes posture
- trust becomes daily

It’s easy to feel close to God in the extraordinary.

It’s deeper to follow Him in the ordinary.

**6\. A Practice for April 9**

Today, as you move through your work, pause once and ask:

**“Where is Jesus already present here?”**

Not somewhere else.

Here.

In the task.  
In the conversation.  
In the moment.

Then stay attentive.

**The Invitation**

April 9 reminds us:

Resurrection is not an escape from ordinary life.  
It is the transformation of it.

You may return to:

- the same work
- the same routines
- the same responsibilities

But you do not return unchanged.

Jesus meets you there.

On the shore.  
In the ordinary.  
In the work you already have.

Monday through Saturday.

Right where you are.
