*The Quiet Power of Giving*

*March 7 — Lent | The Discipleship of Your Dollar*

If money reveals the heart, generosity reshapes it.

That’s why Jesus talked about giving so often.

Not because God needs funding.

Not because the church needs revenue.

But because generosity does something profound inside us.

**Giving is not just an act of kindness.**

**It is an act of formation.**

It trains the heart to trust.

**1\. Generosity Breaks Money’s Grip**

Money has a subtle gravity.

The more we accumulate, the more we feel the need to protect it.

We worry about:

- losing it
- mismanaging it
- not having enough later

Generosity interrupts that gravitational pull.

When we give intentionally, we practice releasing control.

And every act of release loosens money’s hold on our imagination.

**2\. Giving Reveals What We Actually Trust**

One reason generosity feels difficult is that it exposes our fears.

When we give, we are quietly asking:

*Will I still be okay?*

This is where faith becomes practical.

Pastor **Andy Stanley** often describes generosity as the clearest indicator of where our trust truly rests.

If security depends entirely on accumulation, giving will always feel risky.

But when trust shifts toward God’s provision, generosity becomes possible.

**3\. Generosity Is a Discipline, Not a Mood**

Many people think generosity is spontaneous.

But spontaneous generosity rarely changes the heart.

Consistent generosity does.

Regular giving creates a rhythm that trains the soul.

Over time it reshapes:

- fear into trust
- scarcity into gratitude
- ownership into stewardship

This is why Scripture encourages intentional patterns of giving rather than occasional moments.

**4\. Lent Teaches Us to Release**

Lent is a season of loosening our grip.

We fast.

We simplify.

We examine what we cling to.

Money often sits near the center of those attachments.

Generosity is one of the most practical ways to practice release.

It reminds us that the things we hold most tightly may not belong to us at all.

**5\. Generosity Is Participation**

Theologian **Miroslav Volf** reminds us that our work and wealth are meant to participate in God’s care for the world.

Money becomes meaningful when it moves outward.

Toward:

- relief
- justice
- compassion
- community

Giving turns private provision into shared blessing.

**6\. A Practice for March 7**

Today, choose one intentional act of generosity.

Not because someone asked.

Not because you feel pressure.

Simply because you want your heart to move in that direction.

Then pray:

**“God, teach me to trust You more than my resources.”**

That prayer is where generosity begins.

**The Invitation**

March reminds us that the discipleship of our dollar is not about accounting.

It’s about trust.

Money will always compete for your allegiance.

Generosity quietly realigns it.

Over time, giving does something remarkable.

It makes the heart lighter.

And a lighter heart is far freer to follow Jesus.

Monday through Saturday.

Even in your bank account.
